Just found out he died at the weekend.

Was part of the greatest house band of them all, Booker T & the MG's, along with Steve Cropper. Played on many of Stax records fantastic recordings backing people like Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, and of course appeared in one of the greatest musical films of all time, The Blues Brothers.

Saw him in 89-90ish with The Blues Brothers Band (including Steve Cropper) with Eddie Floyd the Hammersmith Odeon (or Apollo).

Terrific bass player. Very sad news.

Rip

We have today confirmed with Vauxhall Holiday Center, in Great Yarmouth, that we will be back there again April 19/20/21/22 in 2013! Yes, I know the place isn't the easiest to get to, and we're already considering a move for 2014, and I know the weather was crap - but it was a brilliant weekend all the same!

A question about next year - does it actually make any difference to wether you book or not as to what live bands we have on? And if so, which tribute bands would you like to see - and forget ANY of the bands we have had in the last two years or so, we feel we need to have some new, fresh bands for 2013! And PLEASE don't say Queen!!!

Until reading the press release, I hadn't realised that the 'Time' soundtrack had never made it to cd. So, for anyone who hasn't already got a digital copy of 'In My Defence' or the title track, the soundtrack is now available on iTunes for the first time - marking 25 years (!) since it's release. If only they'd recorded Freddie's last live appearance at the Dominion ... and if only I'd managed to get seats in the stalls instead of the circle to get my interval ice cream!

...almost.

I've taken to using the train to take the strain, more because of the sheer cost of driving than anything else and 'Red Spotted Hanky' can actually help by lowering the cost of tickets too.

When I read this article on the Beeb this morning it first made me chuckle, then I grimaced. The latter because I am tired of the 'matey' way in which 'train managers' announce almost everything nowadays and their announcements always come at the time when you are making that important phone call or trying to have a conversation or trying to doze in order to avoid the 'tinny' sounds emanating from the iPod sitting next to you.

Yes I know I'm a BOF but I like to be able to travel in peace, it won'y be long before even the bus drivers are encouraged to give us some utterances - perhaps in Polish:D

TTFN
Uncle BOF

As a supporter of neither City nor United, I was trying to think of moments of unbelievable tension where I had no vested interest in either of the sides.

At the moment I am thinking:

1. City today. Spellbinding
2. Ashes 2005 - supporting neither side but the drama made me ill.
3. Nadal v Federer, Wimbledon 2008... and Borg; McEnroe from a few years before...
4. Dennis Taylor v Davis 1985 - actually, I supported Davis, but I liked Taylor too. There was nothing quite like it.
5. Phil Taylor v Barneveld 2007 - sudden death leg.
6. South Africa v Australia - semi final World Cup 1999, Edgbaston. I was there. It was madness at the end.
7. Man Utd v Bayern 1999 (heard it on the radio, but the tension was still electric)

And no doubt more will come. Obviously Liverpool (in happier times) and India, have both caused me to have nervous stomach cramps which have resulted in adrenaline based joy or unebelievable sadness, but these were some neutral ones that came to mind.

.........or the Emporers new cloths.......?

I quite happily admit that some of todays art totally passes me by! I try to see what the artist sees, I try to understand the concept and the meaning behind the art work and even the story the artist is trying to portray, but, I give in, I have come to the logical conclusion I know nothing about art.

£54,000,000 a snip I would say.

I went to see Shirley, Butch etc at The Troxy last night.

I have to say they still have it. I've waited 7 years for this gig after they cancelled the last UK tour back in the days of the Bleed Like Me Album, when I had tickets to a gig that never happened at Bristol's Colston Hall.

It was a great setlist:
Supervixen
Temptation Waits
Shut Your Mouth
Queer
Metal Heart
Stupid Girl
Why Do You Love Me
The World Is Not Enough
#1 Crush
Blood for Poppies
Battle In Me
Milk
Bad Boyfriend
Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)
Man On a Wire
I Think I'm Paranoid
Only Happy When It Rains
Push It

Encore:
Automatic Systematic Habit
The Trick is to Keep Breathing
Vow

Anybody else a fan / go to the gig last night / going to Brixton?

The old classics went down very well but the new tracks stood up very well against them. From listening to this the new album, out next week is going to be a great one.

One of the best gigs I have seen in quite some time.
Can't wait to see them again at Brixton Academy in July.
